Piedmont doctor caught in TV sex sting sentenced

SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- A Piedmont doctor caught in a televised sex sting has been sentenced to two months in jail.

A judge Wednesday also ordered 52-year-old Maurice Wolin to register as a sex offender and serve three years probation.

Wolin was among more than two dozen men arrested by Petaluma police during the 2006 sting aired on NBC's "Dateline" segment, "To Catch a Predator."

Authorities say the oncologist went to a Petaluma house to meet a 13-year-old girl after having a sexually explicit online chat with her. The girl was actually an adult with the group Perverted Justice, and Wolin was arrested at the home.

Wolin fought the case for years before pleading no contest in December to a felony charge of attempting a lewd act with a child under the age of 14 as part of a deal with prosecutors.
