MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Three men who expected to receive their mother's cremated remains are suing the West Virginia University School of Medicine and WVU Hospitals for sending them someone else's.
Eileen Haislop died of cancer last year. Her body was donated for scientific research, and sons Edward, Thomas and Victor wanted her remains when the work was done.
In a lawsuit filed in Wood County Circuit Court, they say the box they got had a death certificate for a man named Darrell Shirley. The Parkersburg man had also donated his body to WVU's Human Gift Registry.
The lawsuit says WVU Hospitals cannot locate or identify Eileen Haislop's remains.
A spokeswoman said WVU Hospitals has not received the complaint and cannot comment.
